Dublin, Ireland — Fabless semiconductor company, Decawave, has introduced its first module, DWM1000, based on the industry's most precise indoor location and communication CMOS Chip, the DW1000.

Leveraging on the attributes of the DW1000 that makes indoor location and communications more accurate, cost-effective and power-efficient than ever before, the new DWM1000 will give access to the technology to a broader audience. The DWM1000 will allow customers to simply and quickly integrate the Decawave technology as a plug-and-play solution, reducing the cost of development and the risks associated with RF design.
The DWM1000 integrates all that is necessary on the RF part of the design. The DW1000 chip, antenna, balun, crystal and passive components are all fitted on a 23 x 13 x 2.9mm 24-pin side-castellation package.
This makes the use of the DWM1000 possible even in the most size-constrained applications like portable equipment.
The DWM1000 is an IEEE802.15.4-2011 UWB compliant wireless transceiver module. Based on the company's DW1000 IC, it allows the location of objects in real time location systems (RTLS) to a precision of 10cm. Also capable of high data rate communications, up to 6.8Mb/s, it is also a perfect fit in wireless sensor networks (WSN) applications. Communications range is up to 290m in Line-of-Sight and up to 35m in Non-Line-of-Sight, and it reduces the system cost by reducing the need for infrastructure.
