U.S. Tech Publisher's Choice: September 2018
Due to the sensitivity of components and processes, electronics manufacturing has always required a carefully controlled environment. Temperatures, equipment and timing must be fine-tuned, especially during soldering. In an article titled "Nitrogen Generation's Critical Role in Soldering" South-Tek Systems' Heather Divoky and Greg Pope discuss the benefits of using generated nitrogen gas to create and maintain clean, dry and inert atmospheres.

The authors discuss ways of obtaining nitrogen for reflow soldering, ovens and selective soldering, such as buying bulk liquid nitrogen, using liquid dewars and using high-pressure cylinders. Another option is to generate it from the air. This method can be much more convenient, safe and cost-effective. The article goes on to describe two ways of generating nitrogen and its cost, quality and process benefits for various kinds of soldering.
