DC Power Relays from Omron
DC power relay.
Schaumburg, IL — New from Omron are DC power relays that switch up to 200A at 400VDC. The new relays are described as fitting green power applications. According to the company, they are safe, quiet, and compact. Called the G9E series, the DC power relays provide a reliable means of disconnect in high power battery applications. The relays use a sealed, gas-filled construction that cools the arc created during switching.

The relay's contact gap is reduced, allowing for a 70 percent reduction in overall size, when compared to contactors. An added benefit is reduction of operating noise by half.

There are three models to choose from, all in a SPST-NO contact configuration. The G9EA measures 36 x 73 x 67.2mm in 60A at 400VDC and 100A at 120VDC versions, the G9EC (44 x 98, x 86.7mm) switches up to 200A at 400VDC, and the G9EB (25 x 60 x 58mm) switches up to 25A at 250VDC. Operating coil voltages include 12, 24, 48, 60, and 100VDC. All of these DC power relays have a dielectric strength of 2,500VAC with an impulse withstand of 4,500V when operating in an ambient temperature range of -40 to +70°C, barring any icing or condensation.

The G9E series is currently available in mass production volume and is now being utilized in many applications including hybrid vehicles, fuel cells, wind and solar power generation, battery operated golf carts and forklifts, and industrial equipment.
