High Performance Socket Adapter from Ironwood
High performance socket adapter.
Burnsville, MN — Ironwood Electronics' new high-performance socket adapter, SF-BGA199B-B-05, allows 0.65mm pitch, 12 x 16mm body, 18 x 22 array Samsung MCP KMYFE0C0CM-D300 memory ICs to be placed in the socket and operate without compromising performance in demanding applications. If the target circuit board already exists or mounting holes cannot be drilled into the target board, then a BGA SMT adapter can be used with an Ironwood GHz socket. The BGA SMT adapter consists of solder balls on the bottom side and round pads on the topside. It looks very similar to the actual IC except it is slightly larger than the IC to accommodate threaded insert on four corners.

The Ironwood GHz socket can be mounted on to this adapter using the screws that mate into the threaded insert. The BGA SMT adapter is soldered to a PCB using standard soldering methods. The adapter is constructed with high temperature FR-4 body assuring match with the target PCB's CTE and prevents failures that may occur with CTE mismatch. The socket, to which the user attaches a target 199 ball Samsung BGA memory chip or other compatible chip, is assembled onto the adapter through threaded inserts, which interconnects the chip, and the system is ready to go.

The SMT adapters have the same solder ball types as the IC they are emulating. The electrical path of the BGA SMT adapters is optimized using conductive filled via technology. This is the shortest connection length by far for any socket adapters, thereby providing better transmission of high frequency signals. The 0.65mm BGA SMT Adapters are available in many different pin counts and custom designs can be delivered in days.
