Robotas Systems Optimize Hand Assembly Operations
Manual assembly tech with electronic carousel and video prompting screen.
Meopham, Kent, UK — Robotas supplies hardware and software solutions that increase quality, reduce cost, and eliminate setup time. Many assembly systems are installed worldwide, in companies including Intel, Hewlett Packard, Agilent, Jabil, Nokia, and Westinghouse. The systems are seen by many users as "best practice" for those operations involving hand assembly. The company's SIGMA range addresses mechanical hand assembly, including cable assembly and box build, and is suitable for military, aerospace, and medical companies, where batch sizes may be low, configurations numerous, and quality must be on the mark. Systems can be stocked with parts for many assembly types, totally eliminating setup.
Robotas SIGMA systems for mechanical assembly automatically present the operator with exactly the right part, in the right sequence, with the right assembly instructions, to build the product right the first time, every time. Video or images can be shown, step by step. The company developed the product in response to customer requests for help with non-PCB assembly. SIGMA is easy to program, and speeds up documentation of the build. Operator comments can be captured and reviewed with a redline feature to fine-tune the assembly sequence, and the system also provides reports, kanban and scrap features, and can capture management information for analysis with the optional Workflow software.
Robotas' MASCOT products address PCB hand assembly, and are made in several configurations: standalone, in-line, and retrofitted onto existing conveyors.
All systems use a precise laser to indicate the right placement position on the circuit board, with automatic carousels to offer only the right part at the right time. The assembly sequence is pre-optimized, and the operator is shown an image of the finished board, overlaid with the right position, and a close-up view of the current part to aid correct placement.
The Robotas line is distributed in the U.S. by PFI of Florida.
