Intersolar Europe Scheduled for June in Munich
Munich, Germany — Intersolar Europe — billed as the world's largest exhibition for the solar industry — once again opens its doors at the Munich New Trade Fair Centre in Munich, Germany. The expo is scheduled to be held June 13-15, 2012.
A total of 180,000 square meters (1.9 million square feet) of exhibit space are available for an expected 2,400 exhibitors, which represents a 6 percent increase over the previous year. In addition to the outdoor area, the expo occupies all 16 exhibit halls for the first time.
A new feature is the expansion of exhibit space to include the manufacture of photovoltaic products. The area of PV production technology will occupy two exhibition halls. VDMA (German Engineering Federation), headquartered in Frankfurt am Main, has come on board as one of Intersolar Europe's sponsors for the 2012 event.
Because of the global changes in the solar industry, the expo has sights set on opening up new markets, identifying technological potential, and creating even closer ties between companies. The international photovoltaics industry is currently unsettled by changes in the world's politics and struggling economy.
Current development is strongly affected by the increasingly fierce global competition and the consolidation of the industry. One important aim of the industry is to make photovoltaics independent of subsidies, producing solar power at a competitive price.
Cost cutting is critical if solar power is to become competitive with other energy sources. To do this, costs must be reduced along the entire value-added chain. In return, the industry will be rewarded with extraordinary market opportunities worldwide. Innovative methods of production enabling the efficient use of resources and the production of efficient products are an important step in this direction.
